"MAYA CHANGU" (The Magic Conch Shell)
A film on Child Protection
This is a short video film, created from one of Nalamdana's most popular drama's on child rights and child protection. The story directly reaches children at risk and explains how they can be safe from sexual abuse. It also addresses the roles of parents and schools in dealing with this highly sensitive issue.
This film was screened for community people at Karikattu kuppam a small fishing hamlet on the ECR. Around 370 people watched this film screening funded by the Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel.
On November 13, 2010 the film "Maya Changu" was screened for the students of Avvai Home. There were three separate screenings for three different batches of students: 6 - 8th grade, 9 - 10th grade and 11 - 12th grade. Around 700 students and 45 staff were present for these screening. This program was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel.
Nalamdana plans to disseminate this film more widely and hopes to raise funds for making more copies. Donations welcome
Originally The Safe Child Project was a one year pilot project funded by Artventure, Singapore in 2008-9. It was continued by Nalamdana, as this is an area we are committed to for the long run.
Nalamdana continued to address all key issues merging some of the project sites and delivering the much needed child rights messages to target children. The latest short film on Child safety,"Maya Changu", was completed with our own funds and screened in a preview theatre on December 8, 2009 - Nalamdana's 16th anniversary Day.
