Financial Donations
1. It costs $250 (Rs.10,000) to put on a Nalamdana community drama that reaches over 650 people per urban slum / village. The topics currently being covered through drama are: preventing domestic violence, alcoholism, female infanticide; promoting women's empowerment (importance of education, early nutrition) child rights, pre-natal health and creating awareness of and providing preventive education about HIV/AIDS.
2. To organise a follow up health camp with a local doctor giving free counselling and medicines is $100 (Rs.4500) Local Rotary clubs and medical outreach teams from community hospitals partner in this. This usually happens after the community has seen one of Nalamdana's dramas and wants more help.
3. You could donate to co-fund our on going projects: a. tsunami rehabilitation in areas along peri urban Chennai and the coastal towns of Cuddalore, Pondicherry, Nagapatinam and Chidambaram.
b. Co-fund monthly programs in the Government run free Hospital in Tambaram (TB and HIV/AIDS treatment centre) where over 1000 HIV positive outpatients are treated every week. The Nalamdana team does role plays and monthly dramas for the patients and families there. It costs $100 (Rs.4500) for each role play outside the ART clinics and $250 (Rs.10,000) for full scale dramas seen by over 400 patients, care givers, nurses, ward boys and family members of economically challenged patients.
4. Help to support Girls' education through Nalamdana's Project under the "South India Girl Child Initiative" funded by World Education, Boston. You can co-fund participatory programs in two local community colleges and one corporation run school. A special focus group program for out of school girls in one urban slum is also being run under this project.
5. Just $200 (Rs.9000) helps two trainers run a theatre workshop for five days for 30 - 35 girl students, who will in turn perform and reach out to their peers.
6. $100 (Rs.4500) can help the Nalamdana team run four meetings for out of school girls in the urban slum, helping them learn life skills which will enable them earn some income for their challenged families. The same amount can also sponsor one complete training kit of materials developed by Nalamdana on HIV/AIDS, given free to NGO staff/ community trainers.
7. Around $500 (Rs.15,000 approx.) will help Nalamdana undertake three month music training programs, using a professional trainer plus talented Nalamdana staff to pick and train talented girls and boys from the urban slum/ corporation school and help them perform at their local festival.
8. Student Leadership Program: $250 will support one child from a challenged background through the final years of basic schooling. A well planned selection process helps Nalamdana identify students with promise, who might otherwise drop out for economic or other reasons. They are provided school tuition fees, books, uniforms and specific academic input. They also attend special summer programs.
9. General donations will help Nalamdana staff:
a. Get special training or undertake a retreat to fine tune new dramas
b. Help to get all staff covered under local medical insurance plans
